Studio Mezzanine
Private artists studio, Rotterdam NL, 2021
for [Daniel Mullen]

Daniel wanted a practical working desk space and seating area set above the studio workfloor with a view out of the otherwise too high warehouse windows. The dimensions of the mezzanine were determined by Daniels comfortable body position for walking both above and below the floor, which served to consolidate his storage to keep the painting area free and flexible. A single framing structure allowed minimal cross-bracing (for storage flexibility), and the ability to dismantle and move to another location if needed. The OSB 'Box' and 'floating stairs' kept with the minimalist aesthetics of Daniels paintings.

Additionally insertable window frames with plastic wrap air-insulation were made to add some R-value to the cold unheated space.
